Food Insecurity in America currently impacts an estimated 35 Million people.
Every day, more and more Americans are relying on donations of food to provide the necessary nutrition for their families. 2020 has seen an exponential increased in the number of families who rely on food banks for food security. Therefore, food banks are struggling to service the current demand, and unfortunately, darker days are ahead in 2021. Most importantly, food banks desperately need our support to continue to fight food insecurity.
Australian Giving for Food Security
Australians make significant contributions in the U.S. to Business, the Arts and Science. Therefore, giving to a cause that can fight food insecurity across America, also highlights our philanthropic contributions. Our organization recognizes that Australians are members of a broader U.S. community, and want to give.
Our organization’s philanthropic commitment is to raise more than $20,000 to fight food insecurity in U.S. communities impacted by COVID-19. To help achieve this goal, The Australian Community has allocated a total of $10,000 to matching donations!
Therefore, when you donate, The Australian Community will also match your donations, dollar for dollar, up to a maximum total of $10,000. Together we can raise, and quickly exceed the $20,000 goal.
Grant Methodology to Food Banks
There are thousands of communities in U.S. cities who are facing food insecurity. Therefore our goal is to initially donate to food banks in States where there are significant populations of Australians who are supporting this cause. They include the New York, New Jersey, California, Texas, Washington, Illinois, Michigan, Florida, Massachusetts and Colorado. The more funds we raise, the more communities we can support in these and other states!
Firstly, the due diligence has already performed by Charity Navigator, a charity ranking website. Therefore, Grants will be made to food banks providing food security who have the highest rating based on their financial health, accountability and transparency, and the percentage of expenses spent on the programs and services they deliver.
Charities will therefore be selected on the basis of their effectiveness in delivering services.
Our Success in Fundraising
In 2020, The Australian Community through the generous donations of Corporations, Foundations and Supporters, raised, and sent more than $510,000 in Grants to Australian organizations providing Bushfire relief.
Most importantly, the same resources that quickly processed the thousands of donations we received for Bushfire Relief, are in place to assist with fundraising for our Food Insecurity initiative. Our initial fundraising goal for Bushfire Relief was also $20,000, so we hope to quickly exceed this modest goal!
Many companies have a corporate matching program for employee donations. Therefore, if you donate through your corporate matching program, this can greatly assist in exceeding our $20,000 goal. Please check to see if your company does match, and how The Australian Community can be added to its approved charity list. However, if you need any information from our organization such as our IRS 501(c)(3) letter, or banking details, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We understand that 2020 has been a financially challenging year for many donors. However, a contribution as little as $5 can help put a meal on a table.
Fundraising will continue through to April 25th, 2021. You can also download a contribution form if you wish to make a donation via check.
